
CUSTOMS & FACTS TO KNOW
The official languages of Rwanda are French, English, and Kinyarwanda. But Swahili is also commonly spoken. Rwandans may greet people by saying Maraho, which means hello. Or by saying Mwaramutse, which means good morning. It is considered impolite to not return a greeting, or to start a converstation without a proper greeting. Younger people must greet older people first, and women must greet men first. Public contact between those of the oppostie sex is not appropriate. Pointing with the finger is considered impolite, instead people point with the nod of the chin.
